Introduction to the McNamee Wheel
Jan 13,2024
The McNamee Wheel was first designed as an all-round moving wheel by McNamee in the U.S. for robots moving supplies on aircraft carriers. As opposed to omni-directional wheels, the McWheel can synthesize a combined force in any direction by its rotation speed and mounting method. So it allows the car to move omnidirectionally, so the McWheel's car needs four motors to drive each wheel individually. Omni-directional movement means that it can make a translation in any direction in a plane while rotating itself at the same time. In order to realize omnidirectional movement, generally robots use two kinds of special wheels, “Omni Wheel” (Omni Wheel) or “MecanumWheel” (Mecanum Wheel).
