The McNamee Wheel Principle
Jan 15,2024
The McNamee wheel is patented by the Swedish company McNamee. This omni-directional movement is based on the principle of a center wheel with a number of axles located around the periphery of the wheel. These angled peripheral axles translate part of the wheel steering force into a wheel normal force. It is also currently used in AGVs for warehousing. Let's explore the principle of the McNamee wheel today!
Depending on the direction and speed of the respective wheels, the final synthesis of these forces produces a combined force vector in any required direction thus ensuring that the platform is free to move in the direction of the final combined force vector without changing the direction of the wheels themselves. A number of small rollers are distributed diagonally on its rim, so that the wheel can slide laterally. The busbars of the small rollers are very special, and when the wheel rotates around the fixed wheel center axis, the envelope of each small roller is cylindrical, so the wheel can roll forward continuously. The McNamee wheel is compact, flexible in motion, and a very successful all-round wheel. With four of these new wheels in combination, the omni-directional movement function can be realized more flexibly and conveniently.
